Discover Selectos Ibéricos Miraflores - Tarata

Tucked along C. Tarata 277, Miraflores 15074, Peru, Selectos Ibéricos Miraflores - Tarata feels like the kind of place you stumble upon once-and then keep returning to every time you’re craving authentic Spanish flavors in Lima. I first walked in on a mild evening after hearing several glowing reviews from local food critics and Spanish expats who swore it was the closest you could get to traditional Iberian cuisine without boarding a flight to Madrid. They weren’t exaggerating.

The moment you step inside, the aroma of cured ham and aged Manchego fills the air. Rows of jamón ibérico hang proudly behind the counter, and if you’ve ever read reports from Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, you’ll know that authentic jamón ibérico-especially the acorn-fed variety-is considered one of the finest cured meats in the world. That reputation is well deserved here. The slicing process alone is almost ceremonial. I watched as a trained cortador carved thin, translucent slices by hand, a technique recommended by Spanish gastronomic associations to preserve texture and flavor. The result? Buttery, nutty, and impossibly delicate.

The menu leans heavily into Spanish charcutería, but it doesn’t stop there. You’ll find artisan cheeses, chorizo, morcilla, and classic tapas arranged for sharing. On my last visit, I ordered a tabla ibérica paired with a glass of Rioja. The balance of flavors was spot on-salty, rich ham complemented by creamy cheese and a drizzle of olive oil. According to the International Olive Council, Spain leads global olive oil production, and tasting that peppery extra virgin oil here makes you understand why. Every ingredient seems carefully sourced and handled with respect.

Beyond the cured meats, the kitchen prepares bocadillos and small plates that turn a quick stop into a relaxed dining experience. The serranito sandwich, layered with jamón serrano and roasted peppers, had the kind of crunch and softness combination you hope for but rarely find. Portions are generous without feeling overwhelming, making it easy to explore multiple dishes in one visit. That’s part of the charm-you don’t just eat here, you sample.

Location-wise, Miraflores is already known for its vibrant food scene, but this address on Tarata Street stands out for its authenticity. While many spots in Lima adapt European cuisine to local tastes, this diner-style establishment stays impressively true to Spanish culinary traditions. The staff often explain the origin of each product, whether it’s a specific region in Extremadura or Andalusia. That level of detail builds trust. In fact, several Peruvian food bloggers and hospitality professionals have highlighted the restaurant for maintaining high import standards and proper storage methods-critical factors when dealing with cured meats and specialty cheeses.

Service is informal yet knowledgeable. During one visit, I asked about the difference between jamón ibérico de bellota and cebo. Instead of a rushed answer, the server walked me through the feeding process of the pigs, explaining how acorn-fed diets impact fat marbling and flavor complexity. Research published by Spanish food science institutions confirms that bellota ham contains higher levels of oleic acid, which contributes to its smooth texture and distinct taste. Hearing that explanation while tasting the product itself made the experience feel both educational and indulgent.

Reviews online consistently praise the consistency of quality. Regular customers often mention the freshness of the ingredients and the inviting atmosphere. Of course, as with any specialty restaurant, prices can be higher than average casual eateries in Lima. That’s simply the reality of importing premium Iberian products. Still, considering the craftsmanship and authenticity involved, the value feels justified.

What keeps me coming back is the sense of transport. For a moment, you’re not just in Miraflores-you’re in a Spanish tapas bar, sharing plates and conversation. The blend of tradition, technique, and carefully curated menu options creates a space that feels both niche and welcoming. Whether you’re a seasoned foodie familiar with Iberian gastronomy or someone just discovering the world of jamón and Manchego, this Tarata location offers a genuine taste of Spain right in the heart of Lima.

  • The food was okay. The ingredients were quality but it lacked a bit of flavor. My waiter was very helpful and answered all my questions and helped me pick a delicious wine. I happened to come on a Monday when cups of wine are 2x1 (which made me feel better about how much I spent). Overall, it was a good experience but not sure if the price was worth the food I received.

  • What a charming little place. I ordered the bocata de cinta de lomo con manchego and a glass of sangria. The pork was very tasty and the sandwich was traditional. I enjoyed the ambience with the jamon on the wall and the music selection.

  • This restaurant serves truly delicious jamón. It’s as good as the jamón I had in Spain, and the lomo and chorizo are also excellent!

  • Super delicious, they have tables made of barrels which give it a nice feel to sit, drink and eat what is on their menu. Their service is always very pleasing as-well. They have a great selection of cheese and ham.

  • Amazing store full of fine Spanish products, such as a wide variety of hams, sausages, cheese and wine, as well as traditional sweets (almond nougat). Walls are decorated with legs of Iberian ham and wine barrels serve as tables. Good atmosphere, great location.

  • The food wasn't great, but you can't expect a real experience eating Spanish food in other country. The service was slow and careless. If you miss Spanish food is a some sort option to remember it.
